Shirley has Bachelor and Master Music degrees in Sacred Music from Canada Christian College and is currently working towards her Doctorate. Shirley has RCM Grade 10 Piano and ARCT Certification for Theory, Harmony and History.

She has served as President of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, Oshawa and District Branch from 2017 to 2019 and for three years on counsel as the Eastern Zone Representative in the role as Professional Development Co-Ordinator for Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, Province of Ontario. In the past, Shirley has been an associate member of the Canadian Bureau for the Advancement of Music, teaching music in Scarborough Public Schools. She also worked for many years at the Ministry of Attorney General, Toronto.

In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her animals and family
